Watsmoor spotted

Post by lazyoldriverer »

Well here I was finally released from Abingdon's Red Boards, with a Sunny weekend on My way to Oxford and going upstream on a bit of fast flowing River at Abingdon Bridge, with my crew reclaiming my bow rope which was going for a swim, ther comes in tother direction the eponymous "Whatsmoor".

Unfortunately we had a late start and the current being what it was precluded any longer chat. So a cheery wave and back to pushing up stream to Abingdon lock.

Left Oxford still on red boards the boat having been there for past 2 weeks. Cheery wave to Lazyoldriverer at Abingdon. Now in Henly and it's raining again!

We had our annual trip to York/Naburn first week in September with a view to going tidal for the first time.
At Naburn the water rose by 15 inches overnight and the weir was all but level. We decided to hot hull it back to York but the Museum gardens moorings were underwater so pressed on to Linton and just made the lock before it too was un-passable.

From Linton we were pushing 20ft of extra water and ended up mooring at Aldwark overnight.....it's no fun dodging tree trunks and other debis when it's getting dark.

We eventually arived back in Ripon the following day, soaked wet through, fed up and desperate for a drink.

What a bloody awfull Summer we've had

Know what you mean by "extra water" in Yorkshire. We arrived in Castleford on the 17th August and the lock was level. Following morning gates where closed and 5ft of water coming over the gates. We left tere 4 days later and there was still 2ft of fresh water there.

Some of our members from the Boat club at Ripon were at the Southampton Boat show the other week and saw you at Oxford. They thought it was me coming to spy on them.

So you were well and truly spotted.

I would imagine you must have a white one if it was mistaken for mine!
Now back at Thames Lock on the River Wey. Not without mishap. After 831 of canals and rivers, miles, got as far as Chertsey Lock and went into reverse. Godawful noise and vibration and discovered the T bar on the back (front) of the outdrive was no more. Ignomiously towed back to the Wey by a narrow boat (The Bishop) and the boat winterised. The problems can wait till the spring when we get back from Tenerife.
