new boat
Hi all, we too have just bought our first boat and she is a nauticus 27, she is called lollipop, she was never was named, but this name was given to her by her previous owner. She was orrigionally in good health however 2nd time out the steering cable mechanism went, which was all good fun we soon learned how to tow her back and manually moor her back up. So we replaced the steering cable, and also the steering housing. When we did this, my husband decided to push the boat off thinking everything was ok, but unfortunately for us evertyhing was back to front. This meant if we tried left we went right and vice versa. Instead of just stopping and mooring her up there and then he decided to take her out anyway, with his pride hidden under his cap, and all our new acquaintances watching, we trundled off down the canal. We eventually turned her around and brought her back once again. The tick over on the engine was running too fast, she had problems with the left and right, well you can imagine the air started to turn blue, sweat was pouring from his forehead, and we still had to moor our little lady safely. Moored she was, safely :'( not quite. We managed to hit something in the canal chewing the prop. So as a result we went on the hunt for a new prop. But the story does not end there - you have to laugh - we were advised we needed a right hand prop, only to be fitted by my now, very hastily learned husband, only to find he had been advised to buy the wrong prop it should have been a left hand prop. Therefore when we engage lollipop to go forward she now goes in backward and again vice versa. Unfortunately a good few

Hi Lollipop,
Glad you
Glad you
new boat
Hi Lollipop and welcome to our happy band of fellow Nauticus owners, you have made a great choice for your first boat.
We also had a few teething problems when we bought "lyndel" including an engine that wouldn't tick over at less than 1500 rpm, which made for some interesting moments going into locks when we were bringing her home (why is it that there is always an audience when things go wrong but not when you get it perfect) and a leaking petrol tank that took a long time to sort out. But it has proved to be well worth it as we now have a fantastic boat which we love and after we have painted the roof and finished polishing the rest of the boat (if it ever stops raining long enough) it will look as good on the outside as it does inside.
Cheers and happy boating Derek and Lyn
