Engine Swop

Post by watsmoor »

Query posted from new owners of "Nimbus"
It is purely a question interest, but as the engine in the Watermotor was a basic Ford block, is there not an engine from lets say the old Fiesta or Escort diesel, that could easily be adapted for use in the Nauticus? they are still fairly cheap and plentiful, anyone had any experience in this swop?=

Engine Swop

Hello Phil

Sapphire has a Ford Diesel engine and yes it is from the old Fiesta/Escort/Orion. I think it is the 1.6 and I have been led to believe they are fairly easy to adapt .

I have recently purchased the Haynes manual for it (no 1172) so that I can carry out any work myself over the winter months.

Regards

Ray

I'm afraid I have no experience of swapping engines though,.... sorry.

hi,
Lancing Marine do marinising kits for the Ford 1.6 and 1.8 diesel engines. But the 1.6 is getting rather thin on the ground now. Don't you think 50-60 hp is over doing it a bit on a Nauticus 27 ? I recon 20 hp is more than enough for rivers and canals.

My Perkins 4108 is 48 I think, but more to the point I think you want a non Turbo diesel engine.
