Peterborough to London

Post by lyndel »

Hello everybody hope you are all enjoying the lovely weather.
Lyn & I are thinking of taking an excursion to London, in lyndel, next year and were wondering if any of you had done a similar journey.
We are thinking of leaving the Nene at Northampton where we will join the Grand Union.
What we were wondering, as we have no experience of the canals, is how long do you think it will take us to reach London. we are hoping to go onto the Regents canal
Any advice gratefully recieved.
Cheers Derek & Lyn ???

try playing with

http://www2.mihalis.net/canal/cgi-bin/index.cgi

I expect to be having a go at that in the first two weeks of May, depending on how easy the Locks are.
We will be on our Shared Narrow Boat "OTTER", which is now at Blissworth.

Coming down Rickmansworth is a good mooring point and I believe Berkhampstead can be a bit of a youth Problem.

I will check out via the Ownerships Site to see what others Think.

Pearl has helped on a Youths Camping boat and I think they did Harefield to London in a day and a night, as the London Canals are quite bright. However I think outside Tescos at Southall is safe.

Will report back

Thanks for the help Terry, we had a look at the link and found it to be a great help.
Let us know how you get on with your own trip down to Regents park on Otter.

It's one of my ambitions to sail from Ripon to London....it'll have to be when we're retired though. I'd love to sail past the Houses of Parliament.

One of our members did the journey last year although she had to be craned out at some point as she (her boat lol) is a wide beam
